Default yellow wire under the nose cone scram 500

I removed the nose cone from my 03 scrambler 500 4x4. A conspicuous yellow wire was disconnected, the male and female connectors in plain view. The bike runs great with it not connected... I connected the two yellow wires, and I see no difference. One side of the yellow wire goes to what I believe is the rev limiter. (little black box mounted in front of radiator? am i right?) anyone know what this wire does? Maybe it's a performance thing to disconnect it?

Thanks,

Nth

Black box in front of the radiator is the voltage regulator/rectifier. Tellow wire is the stator wire that provide AC current to the regulator.

thanks. Is there any reason the guy who owned it before me might have unplugged it on purpose? the wire is single yellow with a red stripe, with a bullet connector on each end.

would the system charge with this wire unplugged? bike runs strong, starts quickly, bight lights... hmm

he did say he just got a new battery for it though.

Thanks for the help Garry!
