Default trailblazer troubles

hey all, helping my old ladys brother out with his 00 trailblazer 250, this thing is torn apart in my garage and driving me nuts.

first off, he ran it with the choke out for 15 minutes or so, when he brought it to me the plug was burnt up pretty good but turned over fine. He said it started bogging on him, wouldnt rev, finally died and wouldnt start.

I put in a new plug and it coughed a little, no start. I've gone through all the connections, but I cant get any spark with the plug out of the cylinder, seems to have a very weak and/or intermittent spark.

my question is this, will a fried CDI cause this problem or would I have no fire at all with a bad CDI? also does anyone know how to test the coil?

also checked compression just for the hell of it- 60 lbs, but thats with a cold engine, couldnt get it warm, still sounds kinda low to me. also, the bike will sit and sputter for as long as you want with the throttle wide open, let off the throttle and it dies. any ideas?

probly so, being run with the choke out most likely the culprit. I'd still like to get good spark before I pull the head though. Anyone out there got a stator for sale?
