'02 Polaris Sportsman 700 head/taillights flickering
#1
2002 Polaris Sportsman 700, after running for a short while, the head lights and tail light flicker. Replaced the regulator, still does it... Starts and runs great. Do notice sometimes the speedo screen will shut off for a few seconds then come back on. Unsure if the two are related. Any advice???

I ran into several sprtsmans(not all 700's) around that year that had wires that would break under the front cover and cause similar issues. Pull your front cove and There is a Y shape(sort of) configuration of the harness. Cut the wire ties and open the conduit and see if you have wires broken in two. If so, add some splices to lengthen the broken wires and solder them in. Check it out.

I found out the problem is probably before the handlebar multiswitch. I used a jumperwire from the battery to the plug coming out of the handlebar multiswitch and the flickering went away. Based on that, I ordered a new switch and it still does it, so that is now why I am thinking it has to be before that point.
Does anyone have any ideas on what it could be?

This is a very delayed response.
If anyone has a problem similar to this in the future. Here is the solution.
In the front, under the racks and plastic, is a breaker with heat shrink over it. After so many years of mud and water exposure, it had corroded just enough to cause flickering in the lights and dash pannel. I just replaced the breaker and it worked perfect!

I don't have a pic, but if you are standing in front of the machine, looking at it. It is on the left. It is a shrink wrapped breaker. You will have to cut open the wrapping and then examine it. The corrosion should be apparent.
It is a very inexpensive part available at any Polaris service dealer. I spent awhile troubleshooting and thought it was the altenator, and then the handlebar multiswitch. All the while, it was something so stupidly small.
I would start with that, since it is so cheap!
GOOD LUCK!!!
