Thinking about buying 2001 660 Raptor
#1
I was thinking about buying a Chinese ATV like Roketa but after some help from this site ive began looking for a decent ATV for beginner rider and came upon a 660 Raptor 2001. I understand that its a big difference a 250 to a 660 but you cant beat the price. I found close to my area and its a 2001 660CC Raptor and a 250cc Honda sporttrax for $2800 obo I was wondering what to look for when i go take a look at it? I dont know what i should check before i buy and also i heard 2001 raptors have tranny problems. I dont know seems like a good deal and both also come with paddles. the guy says he just wants to get ride of them cause he needs money for new house. Hope you guys can help me out here. Thanks

I wouldn't do it. That tranny could cost you $1000 to replace if it goes.
Look for a different bike.
Cheap is great until it breaks.
I wouldn't go Chinese either. No parts available.
I really hat the old 660 Raptors but, the 2001 should be avoided.
Find a different model year Raptor and make an offer. You should be able to find one for close to $3,000. The extra $200 is worth it. If you don't get paddles you can always buy them later. Nothing wrong with hitting the dunes without them.

Well im wondering what to look for cause its a great deal for two bikes at $2800 the thing is that i really only want to spend $2000 for a bike thats why i was considering a china bike. But the guy says never had any problems with bike but what can i look for to see it engine is good and all in general that its a good bike? I know i should ask if wrecked or if when i start up smoke comes out maybe a bad choice but what else should i be aware about? Thanks for the feedback

You should never buy any of those chinese bikes no matter what they look like or their price, because their looks are deceiving. You should also stay away from that 2001 cRaptor. I think you should find a used 400ex. Those can be had for $1700 if you look and they are almost bulletproof machines.

Ohhhhh where to start. . .
Look for a bike that is reasonably priced for what you are looking to spend.
Looking for a steal of a deal may end up where you get taken for a ride.
Do you think the guy is going to tell you if its been wrecked or not. Smoke at start-up could be leaking valve seals. That's a pretty minor thing. The tranny could cost you a ton.
