04 sportsman rear inner cv play
#1
Hi i have a 04 sportmans that has alot of play up and down on the rear inner cvs and one did strp out and i cant get it out has anybody ever had this happen not sure what my options are at this point cant beat on it like i would like cause im afraid of breaking the case talked to some dealers and they said they do have problems getting them out but have never seen my problem any help would be great thanks

Did it strip in the differential side, or on the axle side. If it didn't strip in the diff. then you may be able to go to your local auto parts dealer or tool rental place and get a slide hammer/ dent puller kit. There are a few attachments that I've used on stubborn CV axles... Good luck

if he stripped the spine on the rear end side where the c clip is thats going to be very hard to get and never heard of any one doing that.

Hey thanks for the repley"s yes i wondered about useing a slide hammer but i would still be worried about breaking the case i think the splines are all messed up bad enough that they cant be lined up to pull it out i have treid to feel when i turn it you can feel where the spline match and then i would try and pry behind the cv but still no luck and it hard to know if both sides being if both sides aare striped im hoping its just the cv spines that are meesed up but both sides may be im wondering if the only way is going to be pull the tranny and then the side cover its the one on that side and then pull the part it goes into the tranny and then try and beat then apart with out breaking the case cover wich still could be challageing thanks for the help

im thinking (just my own opinion) you may have to pul tranny apart and either try to get behind it to cut it apart, or use a cutting torch on the cv but may kill the outer case. hard call for sure. let us know.

It's easier than it looks and seems. Put a prybar on the front side of the CV, and hit the rear side of the CV with something solid, like a good punch. If you just tap on one side without a bit of pressure on the other it won't come out. When you get one side out, you can hammer the other side out from the gearcase. It can be very frustrating but with the right amount of pressure on one side and a good smack on the other it will pop out I promise!!
Oh and pulling the trans apart will NOT help you get the axles out. You would need to pull the axles before you split the case.

Hey thanks for the help but i have tried over and over what you have suggested may have to try some more i just worried about breaking the case i have gotten more agressive with it than i care to admitt i agree i wondered really how much it would help to pull the tranny you would still have three parts stuck together a torch may be the only method even at that point this cv isnt just stuck wich i here is a common problem the gear case bearing is ok also theres no play in the rear just the cv spline shaft and the peice it fits into on the tranny and the cv spins freely you can feel whats left of the spine when you turn it im wondering if its not the gruve where the clip sits that meesed up also and wont let the clip commpress so you can remove the cv or if its the spines jacked up that are stopping it i really dont want to pull the tranny if not needed just replace a freakin cv thanks for the help
