how to tell if strut is gone
#1
I was adding heavy duty springs to my 01 sportsman 500 and noticed that when i pulled the strut off it had no compression resistance but had a lots of rebound. Is this strut blown? or is this how they feel byhand?

They should have resistance both ways.Compression should be firm but not impossible. Rebound should be noticeable but not like let go and watch out!! Look for side to side play as well, or signs of leaks.. . even if slight you should replace the struts.

Ya, they are both the same. i Tried pushig down as hard and fast as possible and there was really no resistance, but when pulling the shaft out, the resistance was similar to what youd expect out of a shock. There was no oil marks or side to side play?

I remember the back of my Scrambler was REALLY soft on compression and stiff on rebound, but I liked the way it rode. My SP is still fairly soft on compression but the stiffer springs make for a good feel when riding.

I don't know? thats what i was hoping, when its together and i push on the front end it doesn't bounce? Maybe the dealer might know, but then again probablly not

I agree with this statement.
