transmission interchanges
#1
hello all, just joined, nice site. i was wondering if a 2 wheel drive transmission from a scrambler will work in a 4 wheel drive scrambler. the 4x4 has the chain drive going to the front wheels. thanks for any help....

Welcome to the forums big_kid.
The Scrammy my nephew has uses a shaft drive on the front. What year model have you got?
The rear is still a chain driven.

not sure on the year, (maby 97) im thinking of buying one that is missing the engine and tranny and i have a spare tranny lying around. i know it does have a chain from the trans to a jackshaft then another chain to the front differential...im guessing thare is another gear on the output shaft of the trans where the rear dics brake would be (or next to it)....

If the trans you buy is off a machine that has the three drive chains(rear, center, and front) like yours, It should bolt right up. I believe they are the same cases, with less components in the trans for the 2wd models.

is the output shaft on the transmission (where the sprocket and rear brake disc goes for the rear chain) the same length. or is it longer for another sprocket to go on to drive the middle chain....
