How long should it last?
#1
I've been going back and forth, back and forth on which new ATV to buy. I keep coming back to the Polaris. I was set on an AC, but there wasn't a local dealer and that is a deal breaker for me.
Anyhow, I'm looking at an 07 or 08 500 HO (the carbed one). EFI would be a waste where I ride (3000 feet and under) and I don't mind using a choke. Plus, I'll be able to work on the carb as I wouldn't be able to work on the EFI.
So my questions are:
1. How much should I be looking to pay (USD) for it OTD?
2. With a good maintenance schedule (that I would do myself), how long can I reasonable expect it to last?
I don't ride a whole bunch and am lucky to rack up 750-1000 miles a year. Most of it is casual trail riding, but also using it for hunting and clearing property and planting food plots, pulling trailers with round bales on it and riding my friends property for fence checks.
Thanks again. This forum is great!

my polaris is a 96 and shows no signs of dying anytime soon..they last a long time if you take care of them...still got a couple of old 85 honda 3 wheelers 110,185 they stay atr the cabin and still run strong.

That is encouraging news. I was hoping for at least ten years. I know my friend's Honda is a 1996 and it has been rather trouble free since then. Just regular maintenance. I want my future Popo to be the same.
Any trouble spots with these quads?

Exactly. I've read through the Polaris forums and generally speaking, everyone seems to be rather happy, give or take a few isolated issues.
I'm mainly looking for any common problem areas that can be easily taken care of shortly after purchase.

Look up Abernathy Polaris in KY. They have some great out the do prices. They are about $1000 cheaper than anyone almost always so it could be worth your drive and hotel for the night. I've had about 3 different polaris atvs and no real problems with them at all. The worst thing I think is replacing a bearing or tie rod ends. Tie rods are the weak point on a polaris but it also depends on how you ride. You might also look up Polaris of Chattanooga. They have some great OTD prices.
