just bought 07 420 rancher. have about 13 hrs on it. rode for about 1.5 hrs and notice a popping noise coming from the chunk or the brake in the rear end. it done when letting off the gas and costing. i put it in nuetral and rolled it diddn't do it.....parked it. was going to take it up to the dealer and when i went to load it i noticed it wasn't doing it anymore rode for about 30 min never did it again.my problem is new years day i am going to WITC on a big ride and i know if i take to the dealer i won't get it back in time to go.......what would u do? besides that i love the 420

 

It will still be on warranty when you get back....providing it isn't something you think will leave you stranded out on the trail.

If it is just a brake shoe or something and not the gears, I think you are ok. I would however open up the fill hole on the rear final drive, and look at the gear and see if it looks ok. Maybe even drain the final drive and look for any metal shavings.

It's good to do an early engine oil/filter change, and an oil change of the front differential and rear final drive anyway. This gets any metal shavings out of the engine and drives early on. You should do this before your trip anyway!!!

Maybe a back-fire. If it did it when letting off the gas and coasting, some of the 420s are having a back-fire issue I hear. Mine has never done it, but some are complaining. Might of just sounded like a rear-end noise.
