Default 400ex Seat cover

Hope everyone had a good x-mas on here...

My girlfriend got me new rear plastic for christmas. Stock fenders have a few battle scars, and lies on my pipe when I get enough mud under them! I picked black because I think it will look badass, (red front plastic).

I want to get a new seat cover to go with the motif, (red to black). I found some pretty cool ones on ebay, black, red and black, and black with red flames.

I need some advice on how hard, or easy, the cover install is. The seat and the old fenders are coming apart, because of where the crack is, so I think the plastic under the foam is ok. The descriptions of the covers all say that they are a perfect match for stock foam and you just wrap it around the foam and staple it down. I have never done any upholstery work before. Any input or tips are greatly appreciated.

Happy New Year

Any auto upholstery shops near you? Maybe call and see how much they'd charge to do it. For a professional, I can't see it taking them a half an hour at tops to do it. They could probably do it a lot faster than that.

juttin,

She just searched ebay for 400ex plastic. I think she paid around $150, maybe a little more. She said the dude had more colors to choose from. Any plastic that is not red or yellow is not a stock part, but since you want red I think it should be pretty easy to find. Good luck finding what you want. I'll post pics when I get mine done.

I can't believe no one has done this on here. I'll call around and see if any upholstry shops can do it for me. I would like to do it myself, but I dont want to screw this up.

Thanks again.

It's not easy, but not hard either, works best with 2 people, as you need 3 or 4 hands. You need one of the heavy duty staplers like the Arrow that uses the T-50 staples, it's basically stretch and pull and staple, repeat many times, you will deal with wrinkles, stretch and pull some more, take some staples out of some areas, stretch and pull some more and re-staple, you get the general idea.

Yeah, I put the new fenders on, but in doing so I found that the plastic that makes the bottom of the seat was broken too. I havent ordered a new seat cover yet, I have to make a trip down to the dealer and order a new seat base. I would like to do it this week. I hope this part aint too expensive.

Anyone know how the foam is held down on the plastic? And, if it is glued can I rip it off and re-glue it?

Thanks

Check out verdepowersports.com for some very cool seat covers.
I have purchased 3 from them, all custom made.
I use an upholsterer to install them. $40.00 a shot. Good money spent to have a great looking seat cover installed professionally.
