2001 Rubicon Gone Astray - ECM Blowing 30-amp fuses
#1
Hope someone can help here .....
I have a 2001 Rubicon 500 that just started to have a a few issues ... The display panel constantly blinks & the ESP mode does not function properly. I can get her to shift properly through the gears in the D1 mode only. Upon shifting in reverse, the engine tends to stall & run irractically.
I'm getting a trouble code 9 .... Anyone know what that is?
A few guys have mentioned possible computer issues & or wiring shorts.
Has anyone here experienced any such problems? .... Any advice would be of great help!
I'd really hate to give those Honda shops any more of my coin!
Thanks in advance to all ........

Man, we've sure had a lot of rubicon transmission threads lately...
This thread describes how to retrieve trouble code.
Rubicon trouble code
Post back with what code you get, and someone will try to help from there.

Sweet .... Thanks!
I'll ring out a code this weekend & let you know what I've got.
This site is a terrific resource!
Can anyone recommend a good service manual? ...... I'm sure the factory Honda one would be best, yes?

There are advantages and disadvantages to the facory service manual.
Honda manuals are generally very detailed and have diagnostic information, but often refer to special honda tool number such-and-so.
Manuals like Clymer or Haynes often describe how you can get the job done without the expensive tool that you can only get from Honda...

Indeed. I can usually nail down the more common problems and like to help when I can, but for some problems it takes a real pro (like the registered honda pro above).
Nice that we have some very competent experts on here that are willing to give of their time.

Great to have so many knowledgeable guys on this forum ........ I was a former auto mechanic but have never worked on a single ATV!
I'm surprised to hear that there are so many auto-transmission issues with the Rubicon's? .... or perhaps electronics.
Not too alarmed at this moment as she still goes automatically through all gears in D1 ... Doesn't seem to be a mechanical issue.
Sounds more electrical in nature ........

The 9 code is a voltage converter issue inside the ecm.
I do not see a lot of code 9
I can only suggest trying a different ECM to double check the problem
