85 200M starter problem
#1
Dufus Alert!
I have a 85 200m and the start light is intermitttent. It will run on the pull start even with no neutral light, and in the unlikely event that the neutral light actually comes on the sucker will start with the button.
I have doped the schematic, pulled the headlight cover and found the start button lead (G/R according to Clymer) If I split the G/R lead at the connector and apply ground to one side the neutral light will light when I push the start button with the ignition on. If I ground the other side the starter motor engages when I turn the ignition on. Makes sense Conclusion: The Neutral Switch has a bad ground! Now......WHERE is the Neutral Switch located? I cannot trace the sucker. I have been at this fir days......Any and all advice is appreciated.

Yep..... It is located inside the 2nd housing (recoil starter first, trans cover next) You can trace the wire (Green/Red stripe) out of the casing up the frame on the left hand side. I split the lead at the connector right under the seat and grounded the "up" lead...... Starts and runs! But the Neutral light is on all the time the ignition is on. AND you can start it in any gear I would guess that if you press the starter button when it is running you could grind the sucker to oblivion. I am still looking for a replacement switch, if not available I may try to rebuild the existing one. Good luck with your problem, too.
