Remote Start onn 2007 Sportsman 800x2
#1
Has anyone installed a remote start on their Sportsman? I'm looking at an alarm that also has remote start, but I'm a little unsure on the installation procedure for the remote start portion. Is it very involved, and if anyone has done it, do you have the wiring diagram for the ATV?

I have always thought about remote start on my bike, I have one on my truck and love it. As far as the wiring, you're gonna have a LOT of extra wires to deal with. I put remote starts in vehicles at work. If you can get a kit with JUST a start, no door locks and other stuff you'll be farther ahead. What kind of kit do you have??

Not to get off topic, but my neighbor wento out to start his 800 the other day, its an 05. It was cold out so he went up to the bar to get beer for the night and forgot it idling for about 30-45 minitues. No big deal right, wrong. His fan was frozen up with snow and was not able to kick on. When he came back from the bar his 800 was smoking and shaking and on its last leg. Needless to say he has a whole engine rebuild on his hands. Looking at $2000.00 for everything. So if you start up your quad and let it idle make sure to keep your eye on it.

The kit I was looking at is actually designed for ATVs and motorcycles, so it doesn't have the power lock wires and such. It does not come with any vehicle specific wiring diagrams for the remote start. If you look on ebay maybe search "atv alarm" or "motorcycle alarm" you should find it.

Adesan, installing a remote starting device on your atv won't be a problem.I certainly recommend epoxy coating your circuit board to prevent micro processer problems due to moisture.Your best option will be to use a product about three years old built by Directed Electronics. They use a seperate relay pack for all of the high current switching. As a result, you can replace each of the relays, with waterproof ones from an auto parts store.Directed Electronics builds a handful of starting devices under the following names...Viper,Python,Sidewinder,Automate Wasp,Hornet and Valet to name a few. They are all the same product with different branding.Again,be certain to epoxy coat the main processing module board. If you require tech support on installation let me know.
