99 Sportsman 500 Clutch......anyone else seen this?
#1
I am trying to replace the entire drive clutch assembly on a 99 500.
I am stuck now and unable to remove the drive clutch from the drive shaft. The "clutch tool" that everyone is using doesn't appear to be what i need, the inner part of the clutch has no threads in which the tool could screw into??
I have a complete new drive clutch assembly and it has threads in inside it, but the one i trying to remove does not....
I already went and bought a 3/4" fine thread bolt the correct length, and i can see this working easily on the new clutch, but definately not on the old clutch...
Any suggestions or ideas?
Thanks!

is it been stripped out? are you sure theres no threads further in? on clutch pullers like mine theres no threads for the first 3 or 4 ".

I'll triple check again tonight, but there does not appear to be any threads what so ever, not even stripped ones.
The inside diameter gets smaller about 3" into the clutch, where you would think threads are, but there are no threads.....the 3/4" bolt i purchased simply hits this lip and won't go any further......i used a good light and the tip of sharp probe to try and feel for threads, but i just don't think they are there....

Here is a Video of a guy doing it. Polaris Primary pully removal.

Got it off! I had to use a large universal gear puller attached to the spider and it popped right off, There are no threads at all inside the clutch, i guess i had a factory defect or something.....
New one is on and working fine.
Thanks for your replies!

My Polaris 500 is stuck in Forward high... Is this the clutch that is locked up and is there a video on how to remove and replace it?

welcome to the forum. your clutch would not cause your bike to be stuck in high. if while rocking it back in fourth a little your not able to pull it out of gear it might just be the linkage is binding up or worse case the transmission internals are messed up. can you pull it out while the bike is shut off? there would be no pressure on it while off.
