Hello every one, I need some input on wether or not i need to put a pipe on or a snorkel. I put a jet kit and a UNI air fillter on my 2001 Rancher 350. Some one told me that if i dont put either a aftermarket pipe or a snorkel (from the air box) on, that it would burn up my engine. I dont know if this is true or not so if any one knows the answer PLEASE let me know..Thanks!!!!!!

I can't think of any. It would help if I knew why someone would say that?

I always hate to hear someone say "I put a jet kit on", unless it was done by an experienced jetter! The idea that you can just go with the jets they recommend in those kits is nonesense. You need to start out rich and work down until it runs bad, then back it off a little to be sure you are never ever running lean.

That said, it should be no problem if it is properly jetted! A UNI filter won't make that much difference, seeing you had to keep the stock canister that goes inside the filter (so what was the point of the jet kit in the first place????).

A muffler and opening up the air intake (or venting/removing the airbox lid), will result in much better performance, but you will absolutely need to rejet again for those mods....

Thats is funny! Why would you have to do thaT? Besides a pipe lets it exhale and a snorkel lets it inhale. They are totaly different.

To see the benefits from your jetting, you really need a high-flow exhaust to go with your set-up. Get you some extra spark plugs and do a plug test each time you jet until you get the jetting just right. It's a trial and error type thing. If you have never jetted, get some help from someone who has the knowledge to help you and definitely avoid a lean condition.
