Default 1995 Polaris Trail Boss 250 Shifter

I bought a 1995 Polaris Trail Boss 250 2X4. After some cleanup and a carb kit the motor runs great, but it is difficult to shift from N to R or from N to F. About half way between shifter slots, the gears grind before dropping into gear. Suggestions please.

Don't let the hp numbers fool you. Its all in how you get it to the ground. Clutching clutching clutching!

Check the alluminum arm on the tranny that the shift rod hooks to

Thanks for the advice. I have the ATV idled a little high at the moment and slowing the rpm might help.

In the meantime, I found a severe crack in the shifter mount where it attaches to the vertical frame post. I made a new one from black pipe with a brass sleeve to serve as a babbit bearing. I had to change its mounting position slightly when I reattacjed it to the frame and may now have altered the length of the shifter connecting rod.... a little fine tuning may be required.

Regards, Jim
