2-stroke or 4-stroke?

I am eitther looking at getting a DS650 or a TRX250R. i want to know which one is better overall for desert and dune riding. also i need to know which one is more reliable because i eventually plan to make a desert racer out of whichever quad i get. i know people that respond to this are going to have a bias on one or the other but i just want to know facts backed up by evidence or experience because nobody likes fourm wars. any info would be greatly appreciated. thanks

a friend has the trx except he has the fourfourty i personally don't like the style bike but i do know that is a nice machine also i own a 2 stroke and a 4 stroke i like the four stroke better, less hassle more raw power, better response, But MY MACHINES ARE POLARIS TRAILBOSS 250(2 STROKE) AND MAGNUM 425 (4STROKE)

i like the 250r fourtrax alot better than the ds650 but for long desert races i whould say the ds whould be better. but the fourtrax i think whould be a way better duner. you might have to rebuild the 250r more often but it only cost like 250-300 to get it rebuilt and if you take care of it rebuild will be far and few.
BTW the 450 is a complety differeny bike than the 250r fourtrax. if i were going to pick up a bike for desert racing i whould get the 450r honda. not just because of the bike but honda offers way more race support than any other maker. thats why they win the baja 1000 every year.

well this is a pretty hard topic but it depends on what you are going to do more desert or dunes, if you are going to be desert racing your probably going to want the ds because thats pretty much what they were made for. but the 250r is one hell of a dune rider, i've seen a dozen 250's that can beat any banshee or 450 at the dunes. but there not that reliable but neither are any other 2strokes though.
