Sunl 110ST Starting Troubles Advice Needed
#1
My daughter has a Sunl 110ST. Yesterday I had trouble getting it to start (She had ridden it earlier that day with no problems). I tried to start it and it made a loud clanking sound a couple times trying to crank. Now the only thing you can hear when trying to start it is the click of the Starter Relay. At least I think it is the Starter Relay (cylindrical shaped part that has a connection straight to the battery and one going to the starter and a ground wire). Although, it is making the same noise that it always has.
Here are a few things that I have tried:
Checked to make sure the oil level was normal. I have charged, checked and swapped out the battery. Taken the cover off of the starter and it turns in one direction easily. Check the voltage going into the starter. Checked every connection I could find.
I still cannot find the problem. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
The ATV has only been ridden in the yard, no mud or water.
Thanks,
Eric

i'm going to assume the battery good since changing the battery didn't make a differance, now saying that you said you removed the starter cover, do you mean the left side engine cover exposing the flywheel, starter gear and chain ? this sounds typical of eaither a bad battery, starter or starter gear/clutch assy, this is what i'd do, first thing would be jump the 2 terminals at the starter solenoid, if it turns the engine over then you found the problem, now if it doesn't work then you need to remove the left engine side cover and starter, after removing the starter look at the left side of the engine and make sure the gear looks good and then take the starter and bench test it, put it in a vice, negitive to ground and positive to the starter terimal. it should spin just like an electric motor, if the starter motor seems to work then you need to look closer at the starter gear/clutch assy.
