Buying 03 warrior, good or bad idea?
#1
ok here is the deal, i am trading my 84 camaro for this 03 yamaha warrior, my car needs work and so does the guys bike, thing is that its smoking and their is something wrong with the wiring, my car is maybe worth 1000$ so i am guessing its a pretty ok deal, the bike its self looks good and in decent shape but the guy who owns whom i know since i have baught before from him, loves to abuse his stuff hehe. Now i am guessing a top end rebuild kit would fix the engine, what are the biger problems with these bikes? I have herd the engines in them warriors arent the best on the market but i am not going to abuse this bike, i don't drive much of my toys to the ground, i take care of them and dont redline the rpms 100 times a day lol. Will this bike last me a while without putting much cash in it?, what are the first things to let go on these bikes, i know it ain't wiked fast but hey, i have only had 1 atv since i was 12, 84 honda big red, its still in new condition, but i am frikkin tired of it, no power, no suspension, i haven't driven it in years just cause of the no suspension thing hehe. Also the bike has an electrical problem, probably the coil or wiring somewhere, id have to check it, the bike runs like crap and the guy just sticks his hand in the wiring harness and it purrs like a kitten. Anyways thanks if you can answer some of my questions!

May not be a bad deal. The Warrior may be worth around $1200 - 1400. If you can do the work yourself a topend rebuild will only cost about $250. The wiring may be a different story.
The Warrior will be a major upgrade from the Big Red. I think it will suit you fine for a while. They are not the fastest machine, but the engines are very reliable. The worst thing about the Warriors is all of the bearings, bushings, and ball joints usually wear out before anything else does, especially if it has been abused and not maintained properly.

i did notice that the back bearing for the rear axle were a litle worn, new ones wouldn't be a bad idea, no biggie to change i am guessing. I didn't mention but the warrior comes with dj pipe and bumper, also has nerf bars and a jet kit put in. THe bike is running a bit rough though, but i think the problem is, the guy baught the atv with the dj pipe already installed, he didn't like it cause it was pretty loud and he put back the stock pipe with the bigger jets still installed, i am pretty sure thats why its running a bit odd too. He says it ran better with the other pipe, ill take his word for it. Even though it is smoking the bike does have pretty good compression.

Condition of the bike makes the difference. Maybe have it checked out professionally. Wouldn't hurt to know what else maybe a problem. I had a 98 Warrior & loved it. It was a solid machine IMO.

well like i said, for frame and basic chassis the machine is in good shape, even the fenders are barely scratched, but the engine smokes and it needs new bearings in the back, i am going to do all the work myseld, its no biggie but if you guys say its not a bad machine i think i am going to try it, i am not a yamaha fan, my next bike was gonna be a z400 or ds650, but i could only get that next year since i am going to college in september and i don't want to make any loans untill i am done, and besides all my friends are getting tnew atv's, i just wanna go riding lol and i sure as heck ain't taking the big red out on the trail hehe. thanks anyway guys. Besides this thing is just gonna do some trail riding, it don't need to be perfect lol

My freind gos top speed all the time on his warrior. The major problem on his was the thing uses battery cables like crazy. It also vibrates at high rpm. Ok bigginer bike but not the best.
