sprocket size on 300ex

ok i just got my new 20in. razars on douglas rims put on my 300ex and i was wonder if i should keep the front sprocket at 13 or go with a 12 or 14, i race harescrambles, do alot of trail. what do you think i should do? thanks

I don't think I'd run a 12 c/s. You have already geared down by running the 20" tires and going to a 12 tooth would cost a fair amount of top end in addition to that. You may want to try a 14 to reinstate the original gearing and in fact for more top end, if you feel your style warrants it, run a 15 if you have the clearance & chain slack.

keep them stock for now

unless you have a pipe and stuff..stock motor doesn't like pulling taller gearing

I would go to a 14 tooth to make up for the smaller rear tires. Bring the 13 tooth with you in case you race somewhere where it is all tight trails, then the lower gearing might help you. Due to the short wheel base on the 300ex, if you gear too low, it will wheelie too easily out of the corners. We all know what happens mid-corner when the front wheels come off the ground. Hello trees.
