Default need ideas for boat rack on a 2006 sportsman

hello

I am looking for ideas and or pictures on making a boat rack for the top of my bike.

My big issue is how do you mount it to the bike when you do not have the metal holders on the front and the back mine just has the factory plastic flat racks is there a place where I can bolt it to or something like that. Or can I buy a factory one somewhere.

Thanks so much for all your help

If have pics can e-mail to dre900@hotmail.com

Ya it is for a 12 ft boat all my buddies have them but they dont ride a polaris and the all have a metal rack to bolt to. That's why I am lost.

I am thinking of maybe putting a metal plate across the top of the racks and bolting them down therefore giving me something to weld to for the rest of the rack. Hoping maybe someone has come across this and has a better idea.

Here's a better idea. Montana Jacks used to make one.

I think they quit making it, but it plugs into the front and rear reciever hitches that they still make. All the weight is on the frame so you don't overload the racks. http://www.montanajacks.com/in...on=VIEWCATS&Category=8
If you had the reciever hitches it would be easy to make racks that plug in. Pull the hitch pins to remove. You can carry your winch on the back too, which is what I loved best about my Polaris Multi-Mount. No weight on the front except the bumper, and the rear winch balanced it out.

If you have a winch on the front of your quad you could have someone fabricate a metal bracket to come off the roller fairlead. It could look like an H with a narrow bottom and a wide top with a piece across the top wide enough to hold your boat. I would also run a piece off the receiver hitch on the back of the quad if that is what you have. If you have a 2005 or newer you could probably take off one of the metal bars that you tie things down on to make the bottom of the front piece.

eBay has a canoe rack for quads, called( big rack atv) just search ATV canoe carrier, this one might work for your plastic racks. I also thought the plastic racks were actually just covers over metal rack. They just replaced some of the cross supports with plastic, but still had some metal under there.

This is an interesting rack for a boat. Does anyone have pictures and measurements/material list for making a rack like this one in the pic? I would really appreciate it. Please pm me and I will give an email for sending any information. I am driving a 2006 660 Grizzly.
Thanx

Default Roof rack

Hi Just some data that may be of use to you. Having such a high roof rack will make your quad more unstable due to the centre of gravity and narrow wheel base. I always tow my boat on a small trailer. Good boating David
