Default bought old 93 kodiak 400 general questions

I just got a smoking deal on a 93 kodiak 400 manual 4x4. however was unable to get any general information. Do i need to mix the gas and if so how much and what? use unleaded or premium? The only issues other than these are I cannot get it to go in Reverse i am thinking that the gear box is bent because the shifter just stops, however there is always the possibility that I am not doing something I should be. Also the hose on the bottom of the carb (i assume it is a drain hose) has gas running out of it if I leave the petcock on when I am not riding, I'm thinking that it is probably a float so I will be redoing the carb over the weekend. But just need some help from some folks that have the know how. Thanks erveryone!

You can download a service manual for your 93 Kodiak at www.powersportresource.com for $6.95.

That's a 4 stroke motor right??? You don't mix oil and gas on those motors.

I bought a 93 Kodiak and fixed it up about a year ago. It's a real good machine. They are four stroke so you don't need to mix gas but you should check the oil in the crankcase and probly change it and the filter. To put it in reverse you have to push down on the brake lever with your right foot while you shift. I use regular unleaded gas. Not sure about the carb, I would guess a float problem.

Hey thanks Guys! Yeah i found the book and was able to confirm 4 stroke no mixing just 91. Fixed the reverse to, the cable that comes into the box has a retractable button type thing and the base of the shifter was catching, i poked it with a screw driver and am now in full running condition ----barring the carb clean of course. Thanks again guys!
