Default 200s will not start

I have a 84 200s which used to start from one pull of the cord, to now it will not fire up at all. I checked the spark plug and it was wet. I took the spark plug off and pulled on the cord and did notice that i was getting spark. All day yesterday I tried to get it to run. It did run for 3 seconds and then died. I did notice that when the choke was on and with the air filter off, when I pulled on the cord i would see gas being "spitted" back from where the air filter would attached. Someone mentioned to me that the points might be bad. Does it sound like the carb needs to be rebuilt? Everything on this machine is stock.

Thanks in advance!!!

try a new spark plug, they can still be bad even if they give spark, and then yes, your points may be shot. they are cheap, so don't worry.

Here is an update: I completely took apart the carb and soaked all of the pieces. Reassembled the carb and made sure that I installed an in-line filter. I yanked on the pull cord and she started purring like a kitten! Happy trails again!!
