whats going on guys.I have a 95 xpolorer 400. my awd on the left works fine the right side most of the time dont work. ever now and then it will grab and pops is this the cage bad,if so seem like someone said you can get this at the john dreer. if so would i need a part number

Pull off hub,check bearings,hub and strut seal especially if fluid low for leaks,check armature plate for excessive wear rings on back side and if seems stuck to coil on strut,check roller bearings,spring,cage on hilliard assy. MOST awd problems due to armature plate or leaking seals. If run dry for a while can be a MESS! Also check inside hub where hilliard engages for pitting/rough spots. Hope this is what you are describing. Good luck.

 

yes that what i need to know it also when it does lock in it will pull all the time

 

FWD only locks in when rear tires slip 1/8 turn or when jack up machine all 4 tire off ground,then front will also engage. When riding front will kick back to free wheeling when rear tires have good traction and no load.

 

yes thats right mine on the right side will pull when the switch is off sometimes

 

the cage your thinkink about is in the newer models that the JD can replace. its in the hillard front end and instead you have hubs as he explained.
