Default Polaris 06 Sportsman 500

My SP500 has had trouble since winter running well. I have posted about it before, and have followed throught with somethings. Basicly it misses, and backfires. I have cleaned the fuel filter, plug, air filter. Then took it to the dealer to give them a chance. The first time they replaced the plug, airfilter, then added some fuel additive. I knew that wasn't going to work. Then took it out again for a ride and had the same trouble. This time they replace the barametric sensor. They claimed it was throwing a fault code. Still hasn't fixed the problem. I am out of patience with the dealer, and summer is rapidly going by. Any help out there?

I have had intermittent harness shorts in some tps modules that cased sporatic idling, backfiring, etc. If this is what you are describing, tps harness repair kits are available. Check wih volt meter that 5 volts are going to tps connector, or with test light(find suitable ground, engine bracket, etc) should have dim light. Wiggle harness while testing to see if light or volt meter fluctuates. Shorts usually I've found are at the base of harness where the 3 small tps wires are zip tied. Hope you find problem. Good luck.

I know I posted this back in July, but after months of frustration I put the machines away for a while. Well, it's time to plow snow and the plow is on my 500, so I had to fix it. The real answer was going to a different Polaris dealer. I went to one near my office. The young man at the parts counter knew the part I was looking for. The wiring harness for the map sensor. The dealership by my house would have had to order the part, and it would have come in wrong. I put the new harness on, and it works great again. It's nice having two machines running again. I am look forward to getting out and enjoying them. Thanks Mountaineerrider! Merry Christmas.
