Water Pump Seal Removal
#1
Hi, I have a 2005 sp700 twin and it is leaking coolant out of the weep hole. It is not very much but makes a small puddle on the frame. Can I use screwdrivers and other misc tools to get the seal out and in, or do I need the polaris tools?? I know not to damage the shaft doing it. Has anyone done this without the polaris seal puller?> if so how is it done>?
Thanks!
Thanks!

I have never done it, have heard some have. Just had mine on the 800 done about a month ago cost 150$'s. While there asked how involved it was and said that if you bend the shaft the motor has to be taken apart so bit the bullet and said to do it.

I usually do all my own work except for that job. It will cost you the same thing if you buy the tool vs letting the dealer do it. Call the dealer and make sure he has the tool for the job before you take it in and let them tear it down. I called my dealer and he said he had it but didn't and my bike stayed at the shop for a week. I would also recomend taking the plastic and what not out of the way to maybe help lower labor cost.

Thats just it, if I could do it without the tool I would try...I have done seal replacement before on a peice of heavy equipment without proper tools. Just thought maybe it could work here as well.

DONT do it. I Have a special puller to remove seal and tool to install. Have heard of some using small screw driver and bending in lip of seal and prying out,BUT not worth the risk of bending shaft. The boys above are right!
