Default Need advice: Terrapro won't stay running

I have a old Terrapro that I let sit for 2 yrs. (I know better) any way I knew I would have to go into the carb. The bottom end was gummed up from the gas varnishing. I took the bottom end apart and cleaned it and it will fire and run breifly with the choke on and then sort of backfires through the carb. Its not bad just sort of a pop and then it will run for a sec or 2..pop.....run.....pop and then die. It doesn't smoke or make any other noises. I soaked it accatone cleaned the jet that is connected to the float and the only other one I found was on the back side. I marked it and counted the # of turns out and put it back like it was. I don't know why carbs give me so much trouble. I'm open for any and all suggestions. Thanks DML
