Default front end alignment

Hey all, I'm working on my 97 polaris 400 sport trying to get it to handle better on the gravel roads here as we recently have been given the opportunity to ride on the streets in some of the local towns here. It handles good at low speeds, but at higher speeds, it is very aggressive steering, nudge the bars one way or the other and it's easy to loose control of it. I've got a Honda foreman that handles nice around 35-40, but this one seems pretty touchy.

I'm wondering if I give it a little more toe out if it would help.

Yes, it should help. I can't remember the spec, but it should have a small amount of toe out. If it has any toe in, when you apply any steering, it will want to go all the way, and you will have to fight to bring it back straight. If it has too much toe out, It will want to always stay straight, and it will take a lot of effort to get it to turn.

Use straight edge (1x4-2x4) align against back tire to front tire. Have someone hold bars STRAIGHT, check measurement at back and front of front tire, toe out about 3/8" at front, check other side same way. Bars must be HELD tight and straight while adjusting tie rods.
