$16 oil filter...holy crap

Is this a rip off or what? Why does Yamaha charge so much for an oil filter? Does anyone use a car filter instead or maybe a cheaper brand? I dont mind spending the money if the Yamaha brand is that much better of needed but I dont like being taken to the cleaners for no reason.....any thoughts?

You didn't post your model But I looked at Rocky Mountain ATV on Yamaha's and found that they list re-usable oil filters around $55 and regular oil filters up to $5.50 or so.
You might also try Napa Auto Parts and see if they have one that is the same. I know I use Napa's oil filter for my onan generator.
Good luck or maybe someone will have the exact info for you
And welcome to the forum

I'd be interested in knowing the cross over filter for that Quad as well..
Though if you think about it...
Your oil changes are at 200, 1500 and then each 1500 miles afterwards... I personally change mine at the beginning of each season... no matter what the mileage... I also run 20W50 Yamaha Oil as I don't run my quad in the winter....
But yes! I'd like to get a cheaper priced filter! I am sure there is a Napa replacement, which is a good deal as their filters are made by WIX which make one of the better oil filters out there....

WOW the whole Polaris Kit with two quarts of full synthetic and the spin on filter is only $25 at our dealer.
If your ATV has the automotive spin on type oil filter than you can get a filter for it at a automotive store for $5.
Just bring the oil filter in and they will match it up.
Example, a Fram CPH6606 works on a 500 Sportsman.
