Lots of great machines, but for an entry level sport, I would probably lean towards the Raptor 250. Manual clutches are no big deal at all to learn.

If you need high ground clearance or ride in water/mud a lot, get the EX. For everything else, get the Raptor!!!

The one problem with the EX is that its shaft drive design limits suspension travel in the rear. Also, the stock tires are way lame and make it push in corners.

I think the Raptor can use a tire change as well, to something like Standard ITP Holeshots and that will give it a little extra ground clearance.

Shift gears? Pull in the clutch and either push down or pull up on the shifter with your foot(for downshifting or upshifting), then let out the clutch. Its really no big deal at all.

You have so much more direct control over the power with a full manual clutch! Find someone who is patient and experienced to help you get started, and you will have it down within the first hour. Remember, when going really slow you don't control the speed with the throtle, you do it with the clutch (depending on how much you engage it or not). Also, be sure you pull the clutch back in when you are coming to a stop....
