Removing gas tank on Wolverine
#1
Hi,
I'm trying to get the carb off a Wolverine (not sure what year, probably 4 years old) for my neighbor. He hasn't written me back yet and figured I'd try here. I can't seem to get the top two 10mm bolts out of the gas tank.........they are the top two of four that hold the plastic body parts to the tank/frame. There are two more under the plastic. The top two just turn with whatever they are attached to underneath. Is there a Yamaha secret or is something stripped out under there?
Thanks,
Rick

I could pull it out the side, if I can figure out how to get the throttle cable out the top, but the whole thing would be much easier if the tank come out. The tank must have some way of coming off, right? Are those top 10mm bolts pop-outs? The guy that owns it has never pulled it off before. I am way down in Mexico a long way from a shop. If anyone has pulled the tank off before..............
Thanks

The tank should come right off, it sounds like the nuts embedded in the plastic tank are spinning. If so, they are junk, you could just pull them out, or leave them alone. and take the carb off without disturbing the tank.

None of the top gas tank bolts should have nuts under them, just bolts with gromets and collars. The bolts srcew into ears welded on the frame, i think..
IF ALL else fails, you should just be able to remove the throttle cable from the Throttle assembly on the handle bar and take out the carb with the gas tank on.
Hope this helps...
