Hi there I have on 06 bombardier 800 XT Max
I was wondering if there is a speed governor on this machine, the top speed I could get was 50 mph with a lot of open road in front of me
and if so can it be turned off ?

I have an 06 800 Max as well and was able to hit 65MPH at 9000' of elevation w/ a passenger on the back (in hindsight it wasn't to bright having a passenger on the bike at that speed!) Something is definitely up w/ your top speed of 50MPH. Don't know anything about an engine governor, but there is an adjustment screw located right behind the thumb throttle on the handlebar. Make sure this is adjusted all the way out so that the thumb throttle will open as far as it is designed to go. If that doesn't produce a change, make sure that throttle cable is adjusted properly allowing the the throttle bodies to open completely. After that, I would start chasing down things like spark plugs, clutch slipping etc.
