HELP!!! 1999 YAMAHA BIG BEAR SPARK ISSUES
#1
I am trying to fix a 1999 yamaha big bear that has a weird spark issue. It will spark every revolution on the pull start, and spark one time on the first revolution when using the electric start system, but only on the first revolution. I have replaced the pickup trigger, and also the cdi. The trigger coil puts out 70V a/c when cranking and passes ohm test. I replaced the coil and cap with a known good coil and there is no change.
I noticed that the oil temp light goes on when cranking with the electric start, but this may be normal, I don't know.
Any ideas anyone.
Thanks for your help
Jeff

yes, that light coming on while starting with the electric start is normal. my 99 big bear does the same thing. have you checked all the wiring under the seat on the left side? it might be something simple like mud in a fuse block or a loose wire. keep us posted.

I was having the same spark issue except i did not know about pulling it over with the cord until i had read the post from someone else.
i just went to the garage and i have the exact problem, i was currently taking all the wiring connections apart and cleaning them when i decided to open the case the coils inside are great, clean, not dryed out, no missing insulation ect... so i put it back together and it works the third time i went to start it no more spark i moved the wiring harness coming out of the case while i was cranking it over and spark came back. I believe this is were my son has his feet resting while we are riding around.
i cut one inch off the harness were it comes through the rubber gromet soldered them together and shrink wraped them up and have had no more problems hopes this helps you out.. jim
