Default 2002 Sportsman 500 Speedometer ...

Hello All: ... I am wondering if anyone has been successful in changing the out the speedometer to an aftermarket one ...

My local polaris dealer wants over $300 for it. I bought one from ebay, but it doesn't work ... I would rather spend $100 on a digital aftermarket, rather then Over $300 for a stock one.

My biggest problem would be figuring out what the wires do? ... Just wondering if anyone has attempted this ... The only things that need to work on it are Mileage and Speed ... Since I have the basic one anyway that only has mileage, Trip, speed and hours I think it would be pretty easy ...

Thx in advance ...

you might be better off spending the cash for a stock one,on my 2000 sp the speedo also worked the 4 wheel drive.something to look in to.

If your AWD works than your speedo works, its because of the "Hall Effect sensor" that the speedo does not work. It located at the front right brake disk $50. Hope you did not buy a speedo for nothing or threw out the new speedo.

I haven't tried to see if the AWD is actually working ... However, I still have the new speedo, I actually never took it out! ..

Would the hall effect sensor explain why the motor will only stay running in reverse when the reverse overide is pushed? ... That only needs to be done when the "new" speedo is plugged in ...

How do I know what hall effect sensor to get? I also want to add that the old speedo works just fine ... It's only because of a rollover accident that cracked the speedo that I am changing it ...
