Default 06 grizzly throttle cable sticking

Hi, I have an 06 grizzly and the throttle cable stuck on it in the idle position.
It was so hard to press as if something was stuck on it.
Eventually pushing on it freed it up but it wouldn't spring back to the idle position.
The throttle lever would just be loose so I removed the sideplate on the carb where the throttle cable goes in and the spring action there was fine but with the throttle lever it wouldn't return to idle.
Playing around with it I eventually managed to get it to work but I still don't know what caused it.
I also took the cap off the throttle lever on the handle bars and checked that spring and it was fine too.
This was about a month ago and I haven't riden it since.
Today I go check it out and the throttle won't return to the idle position unless I release it quick and let it slam back to idle.
After a few tries it loosens up and works fine.
I checked the cable for kinks and cracks but all seems well.
Any ideas why this is happening?

I think I read another post on a different forum where a Grizz cable got heated and melted the inner core surrounding the cable. That would restrict it's return to idle.

do you have a cable lube tool? i bet that cable needs some hardcore lubrication. you can get a cable lube tool from most motorcycle shops for about 15 bucks.

Well I lubed the throttle cable the best I can by spraying WD 40 into the cable housing (not sure how much went in) and checked it this morning with cold temps and the first time I press and let go of the throttle it's slow coming back and after that it's fine.
Is there any way of tightening the spring up a little more in the throttle housing?

It could be the wire is frayed inside the cable housing, and is sticking. It is dangerous the way it is, make sure you get it perfect before you ride again.
