Default 06 Rancher 400at Not shifting correctly

I just purchased this 06 Rancher 400at with known shifting problems. It was flashing esp 12 times and stuck in first.. I found that the 30A fuse to the shift motor had blown. Replaced the fuse and it has found itself to a higher gear but displays 1st on the screen.. Now flashing code 5.. I took the shift motor off and spun the gear linked to the shift motor counter clockwise until it stopped.. Is it supposed to stop or can it be the angle sensor thats got this thing out of whack. Any Suggestions?? Thanks

OK thanks for the information.. The shift motor checked good. However the shaft joint still gets stuck when turned all the way counter clockwise.. Went ahead and checked the resistance of the angle sensor to the ECM.. Reading for that was .79 ohms which is below the normal 1.6.. Im going to get another angle sensor to put on it but what I still need to know I guess is if the shaft joint is supposed to stop when turned all the way counter clockwise or could it be sticking because the angle sensor is checking bad.. Thanks

Don't forget to preload the new angle sensor when you install it...

Ok got the new angle sensor today.. Put it in and evertything works just as it should.. Thanks so much.. I reset the 5 blink code but is it still necessary to iniatilize it even though everything is working normally..

The ECM should be initialized even if you don't initialize the speedometer ..
At least this part should be done..
