New Brute Trouble
#1
Took my brand new 08 Brute 750 out today for it's first ride and within approx 10-15 mins of riding it started to bog when I gassed it. After a few times I stopped and noticed that I was pouring white smoke out of the exhaust. I killed it and started checking over everything. The oil was greenish and a little foamy and had a gas-like smell to it. There's no visible signs of leakage anywhere, no loss of coolant. Prior to this I had only ridden it around my house, maybe ten minutes of ride time. The machine had 4hrs. and 10 miles on it when I picked it up. I took it directly to the dealer and they are going to check into it and let me know before they do anything. I've owned several new quads and never had anything like this happen. I tried to call Kawasaki but they are closed until Monday. I won't know anything from the dealer until maybe Tues of next week as the technician they want to use for this problem is on vacation. Has anyone heard of anything like this happening to other Brutes? Anybody got any ideas? I do not want the dealer tearing into my brand new engine. If it comes to that I plan to protest as much as I possibly can, and try and get a new machine. Thanks in advance for the help.

I did alot of research after I took it in the other day and found alot of cases of overfilling the oil, which gets into the airbox/filter, and in turn gets into the intake and causes the smoking. So I head to the dealer yesterday and tell them what I found. We open the airbox and yep it's full of oil! Of course the dealer has no idea how it would be overfull. So we clean it up/out, drain and change the oil and the problem seems to be solved. I rode it about 30 mins yesterday and a little today (pouring rain and cold) and it seems to be good to go, no more smoking and runs great. As for the green oil, I've yet to figure that out as there's no loss of coolant or leakage anywhere. It could be a different kind of oil or an assembly lube that Kawi is using. I plan on calling Kawi tomorrow and asking if that may be the case, and to let them know what happened.

Hoping Kawi will hook me up with the extended warranty and charge it back to the idioit dealer that overfilled it.</end quote></div>
I doubt if Kawi will do any when the mistake was done by the dealer if that was indeed the case. A new machine alerady having 4 hours seems a lot.
Always check all fluld level even when buying new vehicles, any kind, from dealer. You don't know who checked/prepped the vehicle if any.

I thought the same thing on the hours, however they claimed that often the keys get left on which causes the hours to accumulate. Not sure if that's true or not. I did check all fluids before I rode and they were all good, could be that the oil was at the proper level as some of it had already found it's way out of the crankcase. And you're right about Kawi, they really weren't any help, just told me that if I had any more trouble that it had to go through the dealer. I really need to find a good Kawi dealer, I don't trust mine for $%^! Anybody in Georgia that can reccommend one? Thanks for the help.

Overfilling the engine oil is a common problem with the Dealers.
My brand new 07 & 08 were both overfilled by the Dealer, as the dip stick read full to the top mark with oil, not suppose to be filled to the top mark.
Kawasaki could prevent this from happening if they would just adjust the dip sticks to read correctly in the 1st place.

Did you have a problem with the oil getting into the airbox? There was enough in mine to soak up a full shop-rag. Dealer also said it could have happened during transport, which I highly doubt as I'm pretty sure the crate has "this side up" clearly marked on it. I did notice that they had some new quads stored stood up on the rear end to maximize space, and I know you can't do that with some of them. Who knows? The Brute seems to be a-ok now.
