Removing an axle from an '01 Kodiak
#1
I have a neighbors '01 Kodiak 400 w/ a bad left side axle bearing. I was hoping someone knows how to take this thing apart. I removed the left hub and tried removing the collar that bolts to the brake rotor. Either the collar is non-removable or it's just seized tight. I removed the whole swingarm to try and press the axle out towards the right side but it wouldn't move even with heat. The only other way I can see this thing coming apart is to unbolt the diff from the swingarm and slide it and the axle to the right but even that way the rotor needs to be removed first. I'm hoping not to have to take this to the local Yamaha dealer, they couldn't even tell me if the oil dipstick is to be screwed all the way in or just set on the threads to check the oil.
