Front locks for Sportsman box
#1
Hey gents. I found the part number for the ATP front box locks that I made work on my Sportsman X2. The part number is 2874548. As I said before, it is a pretty lengthy process that involves using some parts from the Sporstman ***** and the ATP. If I remember right, I used the threaded barrel and nut, and the hook, from the Sportsman and the locking **** and locking cylinder from the ATP. I had to grind about 1/8" of threaded barrel from the Sportsman off to make things work. I also had to figure where the little shafts that come out from the locking cylinder would end up on the threaded barrel. I then drilled out the holes so the shafts could lock in the threaded barrel. I would be happy to help out anyone willing to come to the Northeastern part of Massachusetts to install them.

Too far for me to travel. There's a trailer supply place I used to live across the street from that has some locks that might work. They come in 3 lengths. I really want a lock on the back. I'll have to look at what's on the quad and measure it. http://www.richfieldtrailer.co...uct.aspx?id=1483&pid=0

Howdy MooseHenden and Jumbofrank........just got the same parts in on Friday. I didn't go the same route as you Moose. The new and original parts I used, in order are....The new turn ****, (the turn **** and lock assembly are one piece) original rubber gasket, new chrome barrel, original latch and original bolt. I put a non-drying silicone grease for the inside of the barrel and for the original rubber gasket. Loctite was used on the original bolt. Tighten enough to cause the rubber gasket to create friction so the turn **** will stay in the open position....it fits real loose if you don't.....the weight of the latch makes it want to go in the lock position when mounted without the gasket. I used the new rubber gasket and nut for the final assembly to the lid. The fun part was figuring out the latch timing. Works and looks as good as the original stock twist on my 2007 500 X2.

Mornin' Moose.....no drilling at all.....it all fits together very well. The locking mechanism will fit a couple of different ways, if not in correctly the key will only turn 90 degrees. It should turn 180 degrees if correct. The left over parts are.....two one inch nuts, two latches with return springs, two screws, two chrome rings and the original twist ***** with the barrels. It's about 30 minute project or so. NoJoke.

Now I need to figure out a good place to strap down a hide-a-key. The spare ignition key needs to go from the storage to the hide-a-key spot also. It would be a bummer to be locked out because of lost keys.
