Default 96 vs 98 sportman oil resivor

I just replaced a 98 sportsman motor with a 96 motor. the only difference i can detect is on the 98 the breather line goes to the airbox. on the 96 the breather line is on the carb side and is supposed to go into the top of the oil tank. Should i tap a new line in my existing oil res and run it there like on the 96's or can i just run it to the air box. any suggestions?
