The sportsman wouldn't win in a dragrace against 660, but the 660 is not all that fast either. The 683cc Polaris Push-rod beast would eat it and shoot it out it's exhaust. But hey, there's no way to get through to Yamaha fans anyway.
Hehe, J/K guys. The grizzly is a nice quad, although it has many problems and Yamaha is a POS company that doesn't give a **** about their customers or their happiness.

the 500 has more HP than the grizzly anyway. plus if you have ever drove one you know that it will fly anyway and if you take off 100 pounds sure it would out run a grizzly. what would be cool to see however would be a SP 700 with 140 pounds off of it. i would like to see any big bore try to take that on.

everyone's always talking about the weight of a polaris.
I for one am glad to have the weight..
Sure, polaris could build a lighter machine, but then it
wouldn't be a polaris with the stronger frame, skid plates,
and better ride.. I don't want to compromise these things
for the sake of a few pounds and a few more mph...

Compleatly stock a 500HO will do a true 60-61 mph. A SP600 will do 61-62 and the infamous Grizz will do 61-62.
A very big misconception is that having more cc's is having more power. My car has a 3.2 liter V6 which produces 260 hp stock, with no super/turbo charger. Many years back I owned a 7.4 liter V8 and it produced around 250 hp. A smaller engine can easily outperform a larger one but it all depends on the technology used and the manufacturers willingness to let the customer use it's full potential. There is also the efficiency of the clutch/tranny system which put the power of the engine to the wheels that play an important role. I am by no means saying the 500HO has the latest high tech engine, rather, the 500HO in it's entire package is a very powerfull contender. To my knoledge, no other 500cc utility machine can out perform it. Yet.
