Default Jetmoto 150 not charging!

During the summer the Jet 150 was having dead battery issues. The boys didn't ride it too much so I figured it was just a poor battery loosing charge after sitting too long with no use.

Well we went out for our first winter ride this week (at night) and I noticed the Jet is for sure not charging as I checked it with the volt meter.

So before I check it out I was wondering if anyone has had this happend before?? As I know there can be little things like connections that can be faulty on these MIC quads. etc.

My '07 150cc is still running good on the original battery. It got run down a few times while sitting in the garage but just this past week, it worked great after a charge.

I'm no bike mechanic but I'm pretty sure the 150 charges by magneto. I was fixing something and had that area open. There is a magnetic device that mounts on the outside of the rotor. There are wires coming off that piece and also from underneath the rotor. It is all quite protected inside but you might want to follow the wires back to the harness. On our 150 there is a splice in one of the wires which may have worked loose. You might also make double sure the wires coming out off the harness and connecting to the battery are making a solid connection to the battery.

Check the Fuse and do replace the Battery, my 150's batteries lasted a whooping 2 months! Napa has them (same model #) for $28.

You can also get a battery at Walmart. I found one that fits nicely. I believe the model is something like es12n94. Same price as Napa at 28 bucks. If you go, bring the old one as there is a core charge which I was unaware of and have to make a separate trip.

Update:

I got it charging today!

After checking the wiring out on the frame, by the tank and under the seat I went to the front and noticed something drastically wrong!!!! The voltage regulator was missing!! Last winter a couple weeks after we got it my boy was driving it on a cold -25c snowy day, hit a stump and rolled it on its side. He cracked the fender and bent the handle bars a bit too. I must have missed the voltage regulator breaking loose. The ear was still bolted to the frame so it must have been rattling aroung there a while then unclipped from the harness and fell off. So anyway my local Jetmoto dealer had one in stock and its back charging.

A note for batteries: I picked one up at Napa.

They seem to have 3 battery options and they all proabably would have worked but the one I bought was part #12N9-4B-1FP. It was the same size except a 1/4 or 1/2" higher which doesn't matter anyway. It cost me $50.00 Cdn. . THe 12N5-3BFP was a smaller battery with the posts reversed but it was only $34.00
