Default 02 Sportsman Stalling when plowing

Hi, my sportsman 400 runs fine spring summer an fall, but the winter is a killer, if it doesn't warm up for like 25 minutes it stalls whenever I go into reverse, hi/lo forward seems to be Ok I think (I can't really remember) I adjusted the etc to 1/8" and I bumped up the idle so when I change gears the bike actually jumps a bit (too much idle maybe) is it a carb issue, and I changed the plug, and load tested the battery (fine) it seems temperature related, also I broke off the hi/reverse shift linkage bar b/c it was really hard to shift (probably related to the hi idle rpm??)

Turn the idle mixture screw out 1/4 to 1/2 turn and that should help.

I'll try it, but first how can I identify which one it is?
Will I have to turn it back in after the winter?

Thanks so much

Hope this works as a link, looks like part 26 is the idle mixture screw. It might have a
brass plug over it that you have to drill a small hole in and use a sheet metal screw
to pull it out.

ditto on the air fuel screw, should be 2 to 2.5 turns out, I have seen them completely shut from the factory, its on the bottom of the carb and probably does have a brass plug over it.

Thank You for the Parts Manual and the info. on the carb.
My 400 Sport does`nt like to idle too good in colder weather too but I now know where to go to get it adjusted.
Whenever I get a new or new to Me machine I usually get the parts and repair manual too.
Is there someplace to get the repair manual for free like this parts manual?

OOOPPPSSS I just looked at the thread and this is for the 02,Are they the same as the 05?

Thank You very Much.
I tried to change the parts to repair but it came up with page could not be found.LOL
I will order the repair manual.
I am surprised that these engines have rockers with adjusters instead of shims. That will make valve adjustments much easier.Sorry, did`nt mean to hijack this thread.
