Rancher Recalls
#1
I recieved my shiftplate recall "product update campaign" notice in the mail Monday, this is the only one I've recieved so far (not sure what the deal is with my a-arm recall). I have noticed that some of us (and rightfully so) are questioning Honda in the reliability department. I was wondering if any of you felt that this is due to the fact that we have purchased a new model that just needs a few bugs worked out. I feel that once the Rancher's run is over it will be just as time tested and proven as the fourtrax 300. This is my first ATV since the ATC 250sx I had 10 years ago. I absolutely loved that trike and I am sure I will love this quad (I already do). I had zero problems with that ATC, and it placed in me the confidence in Honda that a couple of recalls on a new model could never break. Just trying to keep the faith

Rest easy in your faith. Another manufacturer might not have recalled the shift plate thing at all, figuring to sweat out the warranty and then profit on the replacement costs. The A-arm is a safety issue, though according to Honda less than 1% or 3% of frames could possibly have a problem.
I'm not sure but I would guess the shift plate is fine unless subjected to repeated power-shifting, and no doubt Honda wants its reputation intact no matter what abuse their ATVs are put through. I'm not happy however at the prospect of a dealer opening up my motor case--just picky about things like torque specs and cleanliness.

I for one am impressed with Honda. I've got a Rancher that I've owned for a year with zero problems. I have two friends that bought Ranchers within a month of me, and they have had zero problems. All these bikes were recalled for the a-arms a few months ago, but not before being ridden hard for 8mo. with no problems. None of us has had a shifting problem, and now they want to install a new shift plate. Thats o.k. with me, I think it shows how seriously Honda takes its title as "the most reliable products you can purchase." I wonder how many other companys would recall so many machines for what seem to be isolated problems. My guess.....ZERO!
