Have a 2000 model sportsman 500 with a non- functioning digital speedo. Four wheel drive and the back-up govenor also do not work. It is my understanding that all of these functions go throught the speedo. Any way to repair or do I need to replace the speedo unit? Very poor engineering if you ask me! I'm new to the forum so any help will be appreciated. John

 

Have no fear! There is a easy rewiring trick to bypass the speedo and have a normal operating AWD. I do not know it off hand, but use the Search feature on this site with the term "Speedo" and you will find many post about it.

Yes it was a retarded move by Polaris to have the Speedo involved with the AWD operation, especially since some Polaris models have no speedo whats so ever and use the same AWD system.

 

Thanks for the help. I've searched the previous posts on my problem and will do the bypass. Should have looked there first! Speedo is not worth $300 in my opinion. Later,be safe!

 

When my time comes there is no way I,m paying $300 for a speedo also, I barely look at anyways.
