I just purchased my first ATV and took it out and noticed that the Speedometer and Odometer do not work and appear to have never worked (no miles).

The ATV has 80.1 hours on it and all other systems work. I have read on the forums that this issue is sometimes linked with issues with 4x4 and starting. However all other systems are working great, just not speedometer or odometer. I am new to ATVs but have been working on Trucks and Cars for years, I am looking for some insight on where to start looking to fix this issue.

I took the quad apart tonight and I do not see any cut wires, or bypasses installed. Like I said before all other systems work on the quad except the speedometer and odometer. The odometer shows 0 miles which makes me wonder why it would have never worked?

I am really concerned about this possible electrical issue because if it spreads to other systems while I am riding I could get stuck on a search.

Find out if a 2004.5 Sportsman 500 HO has the same spedo. I have one that was replaced due to a faulty wire. Dealer ordered a new spedo and found out later it was a pinched wire not related to the spedo. He gave me the old (two months old) one. Check the price and I'll sell it to you for half the price or even less depending how much they cost.

 

before you change the speedo chech the hall sensor in the right front wheel also check the wiring connections from it to the speedo ps i do not know how to test the hall sensor someone else might
