Default Newbie, 2001 Rancher ES 350 2WD

I am in the market for a 4-wheeler, comming from a Yamaha TTR-125L dirtbike. A guy I know through a buddy has a '01 350 who told me he would sell it to me for $1000. I'm trying to figure out whether it would be worth my time getting it. I haven't seen the bike yet but if it is worth it I will most likely go look at it and buy it. My buddy has ridden it though and says it rides pretty good.

There are a few small problems with the bike that he warned me about. The seat cover is torn but I'm not worried about that.. cheap fix. The main problem I am concerned about is he says the voltage regulator is bad on it and it will not charge the battery. I've searched a little and found this not to be a very expensive part. Is that a common problem with the Ranchers?

I do not know the hours or mileage on it but I will find out more tomorrow. I am thinking for $1k thats a pretty good deal. I might end up buying it, fixing it up and possibly flopping it for a little profit and buying a newer 420 Rancher or another dirtbike.

What do ya'll think?
