For all that have problems with the ES
#1
hello all, I just purchased a 06 rancher 350es 4x4 yesterday and so far love it. My question is this I have been doing some research for quite sometime and have found out this, the honda is crazy reliable except the ES system. Now i wanted a manual but this deal was way to good to pass up, and I know that some LOVE the ES and have no probs but I mostly see post with problems.
So if the ES craps out and I don't like it why can I not just order a manual foot shifter and take off the ES crap and just make the bike a manual?? Would it be the same as if i bought a manual as far as function and reliability? I mean the hex head to connect to is right there.

I am very interested in putting a foot shift lever on my 2000 ESP Rancher also. Moose makes shift levers for half the price of the Honda OEM levers. However both of them have splined attach points where the emergency shift point on the ESPs are hexagon. You'd have to make an adapter. You may have to cut some plastic away also to make room ( I think ).

Ya I could defiantly do that I am just wondering if it will act like a normal manual tranny. I have a feeling that it wont for some reason just cause it seem like such a obvious solution to a HUGE problem there has to be a reason why would couldent lol.

ReconRanger, thanks for that link. I never thought of how the electric shift motor will be fighting you as you try to manually shift. Now that I think about it thats why it feels so sluggish to shift using the supplied emergency tool. It looks like it's not such a good idea to convert to manual shift. Oh well...
