I have had my rancher for a week now and am having a slight problem. It goes through all the gears fine but it cuts out on the higher RPM's. For example I will shift into 3rd about 15 and it will start cutting back at about 20-22mph. I will have a steady speed and it feels like I let off and keeps sputtering almost like a rev limiter but I know it is not. It does it in 3,4,5th gear. I'm pretty sure its a jet clogged but is there anything else I should look for? How hard is it to take the carb off the Bike and clean it? Its a 06 rancher 4x4es. Thanks

With today's fuels, it is real common to get a clogged pilot (slow/idle) jet, but pretty rare to get a clogged main. I think it may be the pilot, but it isn't so bad that it doesn't idle or start well, but just enough that it makes you a little lean overall....and you don't feel it until you have it reved out.

Carb cleaning is more than just spraying some cleaner around all over the place. Pilot jets are cheap. Get a new one, and see if that helps.

Also, is the spark plug fresh, and the correct heat range??? Is the plug black and fouled? As I recall, a hotter plug is recommended for cold weather. It may benefit from a little hotter combustion chamber, in cold winter weather.

 

ok sounds good. So were do I buy a new pilot jet and how do I replace it? Do I have to remove the carb? And I did look at the plug and it was black on the tip. didnt look too bad but I will replace it as well. What gap should I run? I live in AZ so I dont think I need a hotter spark seeing as it was 85 today lol Thanks again

Check to make sure the choke is disingaged completly, if it is you may be running real rich do to the black fouling on the plug. If it is running lean which I doubt the plug would be white and ashy looking. Brown is the color you are looking for. Also check your air filter as it could be clogged causing it to run rich. Hope this helps
