Default HELP! 1997 Polaris Trail Boss 250 engine oil or Transmission oil

What the heck, I just bought a 1997 Polaris Trail Boss 250 2 stroke and can't find the oil plug? I did find a plug that appeared to be below the engine, but it appears to be transmission oil or hydraulic fluid. Does this bike have a mixed resevoir for both engine and transmission. I don't have a manual yet and don't know how much transmission fluid and/or oil to put in it.

Please help, suppose to go riding tommorow and I drained out what appears to be transmission fluid.

Thanks,

Mark

Tcw3 rated 2-stroke injector oil in tank at front of machine(this is the oil that mixes with the gas), AGL transmission fluid for the gearcase that you found the plug for, dipstick has level mark.I DONT recommend heavier oil for the gearcase(transmission). Agl a light gearcase fluid,EVENTHOUGH some use a heavier lubricant. Heavier lube too thick to adequately lube internal gears and silent chain when gets very hot because only has a small splash shield for chain area!

So you are saying that there is no oil reservoir for the engine, but the oil injection substitutes for this. Am I looking for a trainsmission fluid, hydralic fluid or gear box fluid and what weight? How much? May I buy this at Autozone, for example.

Yes to the first question! 2-stroke is the only oil for the engine. Polaris Agl is a thin GEARCASE synthetic fluid,As long as it says for CHAINCASE gearcases other fluids can be used! I know others have used atf, 80-90 and such, but this is what I recommend. I've seen the damage too thick of fluid can do. First to go is usually the "silent" chain in trans from chain stretch and blue looking chain side plates which is heat related failure. Only have to change once a year about 16-18 ounces depending on model,Quart will last about 2 years!

Thanks very much for the great responses. Sounds like I better get the Polaris AGL to be on the safe side.
